Mame (bean size) Wanko (dog)

Mame-Wanko

I just love making these little pups and their accessories. I like to work in miniature sometimes and they are tiny, tiny, tiny, about an inch wide and one and a half inches high.

I got hooked on making these after seeing the book on eBay and thought they were so cute I just had to try them.

My first one was the little white fuzzy Chihuahua on the end (the hardest one in the book). The one next to it going right to left is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, then a Border Collie and the one on the other end with his tongue sticking out is a Bulldog. He's made out of a doe suede knit and hand colored with fabric paint.

There are two books written by the artist Chie Hayano. The books are written in Japanese and you can't get them in the states unless you're lucky enough to run across one on eBay.

You can make them just from looking at the diagrams and pictures throughout the book. The patterns are full size and easy to copy.

The secret to making these and not giving up on the first one - is to finish it even if it is not perfect. You can sew or patch holes if you poke one in it while turning. You can cut the pattern a little larger if you absolutely cannot work at this size.

Find the right low pile fur (use fleece) and whipstitch all the seams. See my blog for more tips on making these.
